Jeffrey Paulsen, a partner at FactorLaw, finds creative solutions to legal problems involving financially distressed individuals and organizations. With this focus, Jeffrey’s practice ranges from out-of-court negotiations to bankruptcy to state and federal litigation.
Jeffrey has a long history in bankruptcy and debt issues. At FactorLaw, he has represented trustees, creditors, and debtors in all aspects of bankruptcy and litigation. Before joining FactorLaw, he clerked for the Honorable Jack B. Schmetterer, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. While in law school at the University of Illinois, Jeffrey worked as a research assistant for Professor Robert Lawless, a nationally recognized expert in bankruptcy. He also managed data collection for the Consumer Bankruptcy Project, a nationwide study conducted by Professor Lawless, then-Professor (now Senator) Elizabeth Warren, Professor (now Representative) Katherine Porter, and several others. And while attending and after graduating from Northwestern University, Jeffrey worked at Best Case Solutions, a bankruptcy forms preparation software company.
Outside of work, Jeffrey is active in his community. He served as a member of the Bankruptcy Liaison Committee, a bench-bar committee in the Northern District of Illinois, and on the board of Ravenswood Community Child Care Center, a non-profit day care on Chicago’s north side. He is now a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute.
